Life Transitions

Life is what happens while we are busy making plans. Some life transitions are planned, while others blind-side us and leave us reeling. Some transitions are welcome and joyous, while others are accompanied with pain and sorrow. The constant in all transition is change. Change, whether good or bad, is charged with energy and emotion, and both create stress and anxiety. Navigating change challenges everyone, but as with all journeys, the course is easier when we have a plan and a friend to partner with us.

Your Life Less Messy knows the first step in truly helping anyone comes in listening and understanding not just where someone wants to go, but where, physically and mentally, they currently are. We also understand that a plan or process for helping someone through change has to be agile enough to accommodate both known and unknown challenges and obstacles along the way. A good partner anticipates the landscape and sets a course that helps you around the mountains and mole hills. However, sometimes the only way out is through. A great partner stands ready, without judgment to see you through.

RELOCATION
Planned or unplanned, moving is stressful and a lot of work. We want to help manage your entire move or the parts that are challenging you the most:
  • Preparing your existing home for sale - Decluttering, organizing, pre-move storage and packing of property and personal possessions; Staging your home for a showing
  • Room and space planning in your new home - Designing and planning of new living spaces to accommodate your personal property and possessions
  • Estate Disposition - Assisting family with processing of personal property and possessions post-death; Emptying home; Preparing estate for sale.
.
FAMILY CHANGES
Family demographics frequently change. People get married and combined households. Couples start a family or expand it. Children grow up, leave home (and sometimes return), while their parents retire and seek other adventures. In the end, it's all about "right-sizing", which is creating an accommodating space for the needs and realities of your present lifestyle. Whether expanding or contracting, we can help with any of your family's life events:
  • Combining Households - Consolidating possessions and creating shared spaces
  • Parenthood - Preparing for the first baby, or accommodating the growing family
  • College Students - Organizing your dorm room and determining what to do with your "old room"
  • Empty Nesters - Repurposing spaces, relocating to the first-floor, or reducing your possessions in preparation for your next adventure
.
UNPLANNED EVENTS
There are often external forces that can make our lives messy and none as great as unanticipated events. Unanticipated life transition events can be shocking, painful and heartbreaking; and subject to immediate or time-sensitive action. Reacting to any challenge is difficult without having to dealing with emotional pain as well. We understand how to work with people in pain, and while we cannot make the problem go away, we can help you navigate through it as a partner and friend. We specialize in holding space for you to grieve, and helping you respond to the tasks at hand.
  • Separation/Divorce - Separation of possession; relocating/movement management and space planning
  • End-of-Life - Preparing for in-home Hospice care
  • Estate Disposition - Assisting family with processing of personal property and possessions post-death; Emptying home; Preparing estate for sale.

SENIORS
Until 2031, Baby Boomers will represent close to one-quarter of the estimated U.S. population. Many of today's seniors are independent. They are living more active, healthier and significantly longer lives. These seniors are seeking alternatives to "senior living" options. Senior transitions require planning and foresight in order to anticipate and make provisions for future care and living needs.
.
Your Life Less Messy specializes in working with seniors. The majority of our clients are seniors of all ages and in varying stages of transition. We work with active seniors seeking to transition into an easier to access and maintain living space. We work with seniors who have decided not to relocate, but need to accommodate changes in their home to facilitate long-term home care. We also work with children of a parent or parents whose physical/mental health requires transition, in which the parents cannot easily assist.
.
We have the experience and employ necessary processes required in working with seniors, especially those with physical or memory issues, as incorporating change in their lives can be especially frightening, and at times confusing, for them. Our approach focuses on patience, respect and empowerment. We honor seniors. We respect your life experience and pride ourselves with giving you options and tools for this important transition.
